SEPs AND FRAND CONDITIONS: MR. THIEM GIVES PUBLIC SPEECH AT THE EUROPEAN JUDGES’ FORUM CONFERENCE

Mr. Tankred Thiem intervened at the European Judges’ Forum held in Venice and organized by the European Patent Academy in the course of which he updated the participants on the most recent Italian case law on SEPs (standard essential patents) and the FRAND (fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory conditions).

 

During the conference European Judges’ Forum, like every year held in Venice for two days (on the 26 and 26 of October), judges from all over Europe specialized in patent law met to discuss the most recent developments in the field. The event was organized by the European Patent Academy in collaboration with EPLAW, and the law firm LGV Avvocati also participated via the attendance of Mr. Tankred Thiem who is a member of EPLAW, the association that has been following closely the works related to the European Unified Patent Court.

Mr. Thiem spoke of the recent case law developments concerning SEPs, also known as standard essential patents (patents that are so essential in certain fields of technology that they constitute the basis for any further developments of the relevant technology), and FRAND (that is, the fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory conditions that have to be inserted in agreements licensing SEPs), thus providing a wide albeit comprehensive overview of the most currently debated legal issues.

The event was also a pleasant opportunity to engage in a wider discourse concerning all of the great themes related to patent law, in respect of which the law firm LGV Avvocati has always strived to keep up to date also for practical work purposes.


JU YEON PARK’S NOMINATION IN THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE UNIFICATION OF THE TWO KOREAS

The senior associate was appointed a member of the National Unification Advisory Council for the unification of the two Koreas; the Council consists of more than 100 members who are located in different parts of the world. The members were selected among Korean nationals abroad who have gained recognition for professional and other activities undertaken in the host country.

 

Ju Yeon Park has accepted this important and prestigious post as an Adviser of the National Unification Advisory Council for the duration of two years. The aim of the Council is to provide advisory support to bodies of the government also though the proposals drafting for the purpose of the unification of the two countries that together make up the Korean peninsula.

The ceremony of inauguration was held at the personal residence of the Consul General of Milan. By the virtue of powers conferred upon him by the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae In, he appointed senior associate lawyer Ju Yeon Park, along with another 5 members, Counselor of the National Unification Advisory Council. Right after the inauguration the senior associate attended the first meeting of the Council which took place on 18th of September in Paris.

Simona Lavagnini, parteciperà come relatrice al Secondo Incontro di studio dei Tavoli dell’Intergruppo Innovazione per il Mercato unico Digitale organizzato dagli onorevoli Bonomo e Quintarelli dedicato al “Digital Single Market e il Cloud: Nuovi Diritti per Nuovi Servizi?” che si terrà il prossimo 4 luglio nell’Aula dei Gruppi Parlamentari presso la Camera dei Deputati.

SIMONA LAVAGNINI RELATRICE AD UN WEBINAR ORGANIZZATO DA MICROSOFT SUI RISCHI DEL SOFTWARE CONTRAFFATTO

Il prossimo 27 giugno, alle 11.00, l’Avv. Simona Lavagnini parteciperà come relatrice ad un webinar organizzato da Microsoft sulla valorizzazione del patrimonio software dell’azienda, le conseguenze legali derivanti dalla vendita e dall’uso del software contraffatto, le modalità di gestione dei contratti IT e di licenza software.

 

Il software è ormai una risorsa di fondamentale importanza per tutte le aziende, che si trovano spesso a gestire un certo numero di contratti IT, che possono variare dallo sviluppo software, all’outsourcing, alle licenze d’uso. È essenziale che le aziende conoscano le caratteristiche di questi contratti, i rischi ad essi legati e le modalità migliori di controllo, per ottimizzare l’uso delle risorse e per evitare di incorrere in conseguenze negative.

L’Avv.
