DATA, METADATA AND DATABASES: LAWYERS LAVAGNINI e THIEM PRESENT AT THE ASSEPRIM CONFERENCE.

The meeting organized by Asseprim (Association of National Professional Services for Business) and entitled “Data, Metadata, Databases: The Black Gold of the 21st Century? Company data and public data as new business opportunities” will be held on November 22nd, 2017 at Palazzo Castiglioni, Sala Colucci in Milan.  Simona Lavagnini will participate as a moderator while Tankred Thiem will be presenting during the session on “Data Processing on the Internet”.

 

The conference will focus on a highly topical issue, namely – data as the subject of exclusive rights in the world of industrial and intellectual property which is also related to various kinds of rights (unfair competition, contracts) and addresses the multiple opportunities that may arise in relation to the activities carried out with data (collection and processing), in field of taxation and treatment of personal data. SEPs AND FRAND CONDITIONS: MR. THIEM GIVES PUBLIC SPEECH AT THE EUROPEAN JUDGES’ FORUM CONFERENCE

Mr. Tankred Thiem intervened at the European Judges’ Forum held in Venice and organized by the European Patent Academy in the course of which he updated the participants on the most recent Italian case law on SEPs (standard essential patents) and the FRAND (fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory conditions).

 

During the conference European Judges’ Forum, like every year held in Venice for two days (on the 26 and 26 of October), judges from all over Europe specialized in patent law met to discuss the most recent developments in the field. The event was organized by the European Patent Academy in collaboration with EPLAW, and the law firm LGV Avvocati also participated via the attendance of Mr. Tankred Thiem who is a member of EPLAW, the association that has been following closely the works related to the European Unified Patent Court.

Mr. Thiem spoke of the recent case law developments concerning SEPs, also known as standard essential patents (patents that are so essential in certain fields of technology that they constitute the basis for any further developments of the relevant technology), and FRAND (that is, the fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory conditions that have to be inserted in agreements licensing SEPs), thus providing a wide albeit comprehensive overview of the most currently debated legal issues.

The event was also a pleasant opportunity to engage in a wider discourse concerning all of the great themes related to patent law, in respect of which the law firm LGV Avvocati has always strived to keep up to date also for practical work purposes.

SIMONA LAVAGNINI TO SPEAK AT A WEBINAR ORGANIZED BY MICROSOFT ON THE RISKS OF COUNTERFEIT SOFTWARE

On June 27, at 11 a.m., Ms. Simona Lavagnini will speak at a webinar organized by Microsoft on the enhancement of the software assets of the company, the legal consequences of the sale and use of counterfeit software, and the ways to manage IT contracts and software licences.

 

Software has now become an important resource for all companies which often find themselves having to manage a certain number of IT contracts dealing with software development, outsourcing or use licenses. It is essential for companies to know about the features of such contracts, the risks connected to them and the best ways to control them with a view to optimizing use of resources and avoid incurring in negative consequences.

Ms. Simona Lavagnini, partner at LGV Avvocati, will provide a comprehensive view of rights over software, also dealing with the civil, criminal and administrative consequences connected to use of unlicensed software or non-compliant licences. She will examine the cases in which protection is provided by copyright law and the infringements and remedies available in the field of unfair competition and consumer protection law. Ms. Lavagnini will also give some important advice for identifying unauthentic software and avoiding the risks associated with use of such software.
